Research Area: Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe)

The Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe) is a partnership formed in 2001 by a group of scientists from local, state, and Federal government agencies, universities, and private organizations who conduct monitoring in rocky intertidal zones along the California coast. Some of these partners have been collecting data for over 20 years. Long-term data on habitat quality, species abundance, invertebrate counts, and other survey studies will continue to be gathered biannually (each spring and fall) at 89 established monitoring sites.

Overview

In order to permit large-scale analyses, the MARINe partnership sought the creation of a centralized database that would consolidate disparate sets of historic data with future monitoring results. MARINe has partnered with SCCWRP to develop and maintain this database. Information generated by MARINe and maintained in a user-friendly format by SCCWRP allows managers to assess the health of critical shoreline habitat, identify human impacts, and evaluate the progress of mitigation measures.
