Research Theme: Information Management
Information management at SCCWRP includes comprehensive data collection and distribution. SCCWRP has been instrumental in organizing and working with large groups of agencies to collect data that is both comparable and easy to understand. Consensus-based meetings have been held to create standardized data-transfer formats (SDTFs) that will ensure data quality and comparability among agencies. Web-based technologies are now being incorporated into the data submission process, which further improves data access and quality.
SCCWRP Research
Information management is essential for the successful implementation of any project. SCCWRP has been involved in a number of projects that have led to regional and statewide environmental condition assessments. These projects include the Regional Bight Surveys, the Western Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program, and the Regional Data Center Project. SCCWRP has also produced a variety of tools for scientists to use to collect, analyze, and visualize data. Some examples include the Bight’08 Field Data System, the Bioassessment Database, and the San Diego Mapping Project .
Information management programs are presented with the challenge of producing useable data for scientists, managers, and the public. All of the data from SCCWRP projects are accessible through the website, and can be downloaded in a variety of formats. The Data Search page allows users to find data by subject, project, or location.
SCCWRP’s work to support information management falls into four research areas:
