January 31, 2012: The 2011 SCCWRP Annual Report is now available online. It consists of 29 scientific articles detailing SCCWRP research activities over the past year. The articles are arranged into areas of research interest, including: Freshwater, Estuaries, Beaches, Oceans, and Constituents of Emerging Concern. Hard copies will be mailed out in early February. January 26, 2012: My Clean Water Act (MCWA) is a program designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act through education, advocacy, and outreach activities around the country in 2012. Details and a list of events can be found on Facebook. Around the Clean Water Act anniversary date in late October, SCCWRP is planning to release a retrospective summary document developed in partnership with member agencies on changes in the southern California coastal ocean over the last four decades. Findings from this collaborative effort will also be highlighted at Chapman University’s World Water Day celebration on March 22, and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Annual Meeting November 11-15 in Long Beach. January 24, 2012: A brief synthesis report summarizing findings from the Coastal Ecology component of the 2008 Southern California Bight Regional Monitoring Program (Bight '08) is now available on SCCWRP’s website. The report addresses the three core questions of the Coastal Ecology investigation and several additional highlights from the program. Printed copies will also be available on request after January 26, 2012. Questions about the Bight Regional Monitoring Program and reports can be directed to Ken Schiff.

January 24, 2012: In January, SCCWRP released a fact sheet on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs). The second in SCCWRP’s new fact sheet series, it gives an overview of the environmental issue and explains the work SCCWRP is doing in this area. The first fact sheet on rapid microbiological monitoring methods was released in January 2011. Upcoming fact sheets for 2012 include integrated sediment quality assessment and microbial source tracking and identification. For more information on the fact sheets, please contact Karen Setty.

November 30, 2011: The Southern California Bight 2008 Regional Monitoring Program Volume III Report on Sediment Chemistry was released on November 18. The Regional Monitoring Program (Bight ’08) is a collaborative, large-scale five year survey of conditions in the Southern California Bight. Reports on Sediment Toxicity and Areas of Special Biological Significance were completed previously. Additional reports on benthic macrofauna, demersal fishes and megabenthic invertebrates, shoreline microbiology, water quality, rocky reef, and coastal wetlands and estuaries are under preparation.
